Emergency Preparedness
Long before a disaster strikes, the Red Cross engages in the following on-going preparedness activities, to name a few
- Recruit, train and develop volunteers - we offer free standardized disaster training to teach volunteers to help individuals affected by a disaster
- Identify shelter sites and train shelter teams - we train churches, schools or other organizations, with facilities available for use as a shelter, to open their facilities to the community in time of disaster.
- Collaborate with local emergency management offices, businesses, and other volunteer/non-profit agencies - we partner with many community agencies before a disaster happens to ensure we provide uniform, efficient and timely disaster relief to those affected.
- Provide disaster preparedness information to the community - we provide on-site disaster education to help individuals and groups prepare for any type of emergency.
Preparing for the Unexpected - provides families, communities
and businesses with the information on how to prepare for any type of disaster, including a terrorist attack, and respond to direction from authorities.
Masters of Disaster - teaches elementary and middle/junior high school students the skills and knowledge they need to prepare for, recognize and recover from a disaster in their home, school, or community.
- explains 5 simple steps anyone can take to help make a difference in time of disaster: Make a Plan, Build a Kit, Get Trained, Volunteer, Give Blood
Facing Fear - an interactive, standards-based curriculum helps young people (grades K-12) deal with Terrorism, or other tragic events, and reinforces a sense of security
